Hi Folks,
Sorry for the radio silence.
I am leaving the great city of L.A. to live in Asheville, NC. While I will always love L.A. and it's music scene, I am excited to see what Asheville has to offer. From the Mothlight to the Orange Peel, Asheville will be sure to filled with Hidden Gems, including my major festival being Bonnaroo instead of Coachella now.
So with that, the site will have a bit of an overhaul, it will still have posts about vinyl, mostly new things and reissues, along with $1 bin scores, but I think the major focus of the site will be a concert calendar and alert to what is going on in the Asheville music scene, along with surrounding areas like Charlotte, Knoxville, Athens and more.
Hopefully the site will grow and became a big part of the Asheville music scene.
To a New Year.
Best
Andrew

Godley & Creme - The History Mix Volume 1
Genre: New Wave, Synthpop
Buy: $16 on Amazon
In Less Than 10 Words: A little less 10cc, a little more New Order
Top Tracks: Cry, Golden Boy, Side A in it's entirety
This is a gem. Whether you are a fan of New Wave or fan of 10cc (Hotlegs), The Magic Lanterns, or music video directors. Kevin Godley and Lol Creme have done it all. Their presents in the states flies under the radar for the most, but the single, Cry, off this album did have it's time in the sun at one point. This record starts off with kick ass dancey remix of prior songs strung together like it was done by modern DJs simply dubbed Wet Rubber Soup which is followed by a remix of the single Cry, before you flip it to hear the actual single! It's a really fun album to have and it's full of surprises. The flip side takes things down a notch, but it a good way. It's different because though it's still synthy, it's a lot more mellow, along with the single version of Cry. Take a chance on this one, you won't be able to find it on Spotify at the moment, so if you find it for cheap (got mine for $5), I'd grab it!

LOCALS ONLY: Free Charles Bradley Concert
Date: 9/11/14 at 7pm
Venue: Santa Monica Pier
As the summer draws to an end (and hopefully along with it the weather) you can end it with bang. The last concert of the Twilight Concert series is a soulful funky amazing treat. The kids might be back in school now, so hopefully that will lower the crowds. Still, you'd probably want to get their early to find parking or Uber. It's going to be a great show and a great way to end this season.
$1 Bin: A Man and A Woman OST
Genre: Pop/Jazz/Soundtrack
Buy: Discogs
In Less Than 10 Words: French New Wave dancing and snapping will ensue.
Top Tracks: Un Homme Et Une Femme, Samba Saravah, Aujourd'hui C'est Toi, Plus Fort Que Nous
While flipping through those $1 bins you may or may not stumble upon this bright pink treasure. Even if you have or have not seen the movie, you'll probably recognize the title track, Un Homme Et Une Femme, in either it's instrumental or vocal version. It was nominated for an Oscar for best original song and is used in numerous commercials in Finland. Co-Writer of the film, Pierre Barouh, who also played the deceased husband, sings on the track Samba Saravah, which is a cover of a Brazilian song Samba da Bencao (written by Baden Powell). Much like OST, the music ranges from the different moods that film goes through. You will find intensity and drama with the instrumental Aujourd'hui C'est Toi, while in the vocal version you will find beauty with the lounge singing. If you are a movie buff or are just looking for some great world music, this is a perfect find for a $1. Check it out.
Happy Hunting!

LOCALS ONLY: Free Allah-Las Concert at Amoeba
Folk Fridays: Red House Painters - Songs for a Blue Guitar
Genre: Folk Rock
Buy: Discogs $48
In Less Than 10 Words: Mark Kozelek's beautiful music adds some rock guitar.
Top Tracks: Have You Forgotten, Song For a Blue Guitar, All Mixed Up, Revelation Big Sur, Make Like Paper
I was lucky enough to find this on eBay for only $20! If you are fan of Red House Painters, you'll notice that this album shares a lot of the same qualities, but also some newer sounds. Mark Kozelek was even quoted as wanting to release it as a solo record rather than Red House Painters. The time of the albums release has some crazy history behind it, as it was when they were dropped from their label 4AD. Luckily it was released later by Supreme Recordings, which was owned by non other than John Hughes (thanks Mr Hughes!). While the entire album is great, even the insane guitar solo driven cover of Paul McCartney and Wing's Silly Love Songs, the main reason this album is so magical is the opening track Have You Forgotten. It's so tender and well written, you'll find it hard to get past it. The album contains other covers too, the Cars' All Mixed Up is probably the strongest, but Yes' Long Distance Run is also great. And while Red House Painters keep their soft "sadcore" esthetic, this album also introduces a few songs that have heavy rock driven guitar with insanely jam-y solos. Make Like Paper is a fine example of this. If you find this record, grab it quickly and love it tender (as you can see mine is still in it's shrink wrap). The vinyl version wasn't released until 2009 by Plain Recordings on a heavyweight vinyl, with 500 being blue.
Good luck finding this one, and Happy Hunting.
